Graphics Design
As part of my assignment for Unit 35: Digital Graphics for Interactive Media I have created this company logo for my game design company:

For my logo I have chosen to use an eagle as the character in the graphic. This is because eagles are viscous and some features of the bird can surprise some people. I have chosen to write Xtreme Gaming with a series of random lines to make it look like it from a horror movie; I have drawn the eagle as if it was looking down on you. This makes it look serious. I have chosen to outline the eagle in red and the text in red as the colour red can be associated with blood.

This is an image splash art to represent the game I have chosen which is Gliese 581.
This shows the layer I have used to make this splash art image. This is will be used as a navigation/Splash button to be used on steam.

I have given the text a shadow to add depth and so that is standout from the rest of the graphic. I have chosen to do a dark blue background to show that the game has a dark theme to it. I have used an image is planet earth to show that humans have visited a foreign planet. I have drawn a bunch of aliens with weapons to show that both the humans and aliens are fighting. There is also a spaceship on the left hand side in the background this is to show that the alien planet has not accepted the visit of humans and that they have turned on their attacking systems on. I have put my logo in the right bottom of the screen to represent the game as well. I have put the characters of the game in white to keep of the appearance of the characters a secret. I have also drawn the title of the game and given it the colour lime green. I have done this because the colour lime green is stereotypical to aliens and I have drawn the title in a wiggly way. I have chosen the colour green as it stand out from the rest of the graphic which catches the eye. This is to give a spooky scene to the game. I have given a rough time date at the bottom of the splash art to hype up the people so that they are more interested in the game. I have put a space ship and the planet earth in the background. I have done this to give a scene that the two planets are fighting. I have chosen to use the blue landscape as it gives a dark tone to the graphic. This also relates to the theme of darkness and the theme of fighting.I have put the individual parts of the graphic in related folder in Photoshop. This makes it easier for me if I have to come back to work and edit it. I have exported this graphic as a JPEG. This is because it will be used on the internet and the memory size of the graphic need to be as low as possible. JPEG is also suitable for the graphic as it's not animated or it won't be printed. The resolution I have chosen to use was width: 550 and height: 400 in pixels
I have followed most of what I intended to do, but i didn't get  show one the characters. I have done most of what I intended to do in the graphic.

The process
I first started with a background and got pictures of mountains from the internet. I gathered the following images:

This is an image from a desert i have made it all blue and taken all the yellow away. I have given it a dark blue as it will be cover most of the background and the game has a dark theme to it. It will leave a dark impression to the viewer.

I then took this picture of a mountain. I made it all blue but a light blue to contrast from the first mountain. It's also light because it looks like it's further away.
I then found a sky that look like it was in a storm but it had a giant silver ball. I did't change any of the colors for the part of the background.
I then decided to put a picture of the earth in the place of the giant silver ball.
I then put a spaceship that i found from the internet and i changed the colour of it and making majority of the ship blue.
I then started to change to order of each layer so that the spaceship look like it was coming out of the left hand side. I also put the earth behind the first mountain.
Then i draw a figure of each letter of the title and filled it all in lime green. I then selected the rubber tool and used a tablet the start erasing some of the pixels from the title. I would erase part by part until I felt like it was good. I also did the same thing to the numbers in the title. I added a faded black glow to the title so that it would standout from the background.
I then added my logo in to represent the company making the game. I made the logo look like an eagle and did random straight line to make the letter of the logo. I then added a glow to the eagle but i didn't fade the glow as i wanted it to look sharp.
I then added text saying "coming soon summer 2015". I made the text lime green to keep it the same as the main title. I also gave the text a black faded glow so that it would stand out from the background.
I then added some of the characters that are in the game. I got this image from the internet and I have taken away some of the weapons they had and instead I added things like swords.

Unit 35: Digital Graphics for interactive media

My intentions:
When creating my graphic I intend to show some aspect of the game e.g. characters or setting. I want to put my logo on the bottom right corner. I also want to make an original font for the title of the game. I also want to make the title of the game catchy to the eye. I will also put a date for when I intend to release the game. I want to put at least one of the character that are in the game. I want to make the story clear from the beginning. I want to make the graphic look dark so that it give the scene of the evil and darkness. I only want to put inner and outer shadows on the graphic as too many effects on the graphic can ruin it.

The tools I intend to use:
  • Pen tool
  • Magic wand
  • Erase tool
  • Text tool
  • Duplicate
  • Transform
